Frieza takes this up with Guru, threatening to hurt Nail unless he tells him what he wants to know, but Guru warns Frieza that Nail is the strongest Namekian on the planet, and won’t go down as easily as the others. He moves on to Nail, but Nail warns him that if he kills Guru, the Dragon Balls will cease to function. Why didn’t they defend any of the villages before this? Where have they been all this time?įrieza kills them all very easily, needless to say. I’m pretty sure these guys are filler characters, because it seems kind of odd that three Namekian warriors would still be alive on the planet after all this time.
Three more Namekians show up to fight him. When Frieza arrives at Guru’s house, he explains his business to Nail, but before he can really get down to it… Ironically, Dende and Frieza pass each other in mid-flight, but Frieza declines to do anything about him, figuring that Dende won’t matter much in the long run. Privately, Guru wonders if he’ll die of natural causes before Frieza has a chance to murder him. Instead, he sends Dende to the Earthlings, and uses his power-increasing ability to make Dende faster. Guru had sent Nail to help the Earthlings battle the Ginyu Force, but he couldn’t go through with it, because his first duty is Guru’s safety. Krillin and Gohan show up because they need the Dragon Radar, but Bulma has it and she’s not here.Īt Guru’s house, Nail returns, because he sensed Frieza approaching. Meanwhile, her campsite is abandoned, and wow, Bulma has a dartboard with Yamcha’s face on it. I’m not sure if this is the one Vegeta attacked, or one of the others. Somehow this takes her to one of the Namekian villages, where she cradles a dead child. While all of this is going on, Bulma tries to find the seven Dragon Balls, not knowing that they’re at Frieza’s ship. Against a superior opponent, Ginyu would believe he still had a chance, but if Goku were a true Super Saiyan, then resistance would be futile.Īnyway, Ginyu has a sneaky plan to deal with Goku, but that’ll have to wait until next time, because this episode has a ton of padding to get through. I guess the takeaway here is that the Super Saiyan’s defining trait is invincibility. Goku is definitely stronger than Ginyu, so what does it matter if Goku is a Super Saiyan or not? But Ginyu seems to pin his hopes on the idea that Goku isn’t super, because he’s willng to show mercy.
What I find strange is how Ginyu and Jeice are both familiar with the legend, and yet they seem strangely particular about the details. But according to Jeice, Frieza was afraid of the possibility of one Saiyan rising above the rest and becoming a Super Saiyan strong enough to defeat him. Before, Dodoria and Zarbon indicated that Frieza destroyed the Saiyan homeworld because he was concerned about a mass uprising, and even then, they suggested that this would merely be troublesome for Frieza. More importantly, Jeice confirms that a Super Saiyan is the one thing, the only thing, that Frieza fears.
A Super Saiyan is a legendary warrior stronger than anyone else. Notably, when Jeice hears Ginyu call Goku a Super Saiyan, he defines the term a little more clearly. But once Goku offered to spare him, Ginyu began to doubt this, much as Vegeta did when Goku tried to spare Recoome and Burter. Now, up to this point, Ginyu began to think that Goku was a Super Saiyan, mainly because he was so strong, stronger than any Saiyan he’d ever encountered before. Also, he was impressed with Ginyu’s sense of fair play in the previous episode. Goku believes a battle between them would be meaningless, and he wants to save energy and time. So Goku clearly has Captain Ginyu outclassed, and he might even be strong enough to take on Frieza, since Ginyu claims that Frieza’s the only other guy stronger than himself.īut the whole point of this demonstration is to convince Ginyu to leave the planet peacefully. While Goku powers up, he dives into the ground, throws a boulder at him, and shoots energy blasts at him, but none of it changes anything.Īnd Goku claims that he can get stronger than this for a few moments, presumably referencing the Kaio-Ken. A big chunk of this episode is Ginyu watching Goku power up to his maximum, which I guess is 180,00.
